brake question..91 ranger

okay i have a question.. when i SLAM on breaks really fast on my dash in the lower left hand corner a red light flashes that says break and something below it.. what does this mean?

check your fluid level, that light is fluid level and parking brake indicator

How hard is "slam". You may be throwing around so much inertia that the switch is closing itself anyway.

That is even more likely if the fluid is black.
