I have a 2004 ranger edge 2wd and need some new brakes. What brand of pads and rotors have you guys had good luck with? I really want a pad that does not give off much brake dust. So whats the best bang for the buck in your opinion?

Sam

there's many to choose from. i usually go with Duralast rotors and Duralast CMAX gold pads. not much dust off them.
not too expensive either, and usually in stock at your local auto parts store.

ive also tried EBC and those were nice

Hows about what was designed for it? Motorcraft.

if motorcraft is what came on the truck from the factory....i will never buy motorcraft again. ive never really had good luck with it. anyone else have good luck with a certain brand of pads?

I just put EBC "green stuff" pads on mine and they are awesome. Made lots of dust at first which I suspect was the break-in coating they put on them because the dust stopped and now the truck stops better than it ever has.

Theres motorcraft come in a red prety box, and then theres ford brake pads come in a brown box, ford brake pads all the way ftw!

I bought a set of Duralast pads a while back but never installed them. At the time, my brakes were squealing really bad all the time, but of course as soon as I bought the new pads the problem went away.

I'm assuming my truck has stock pads, since I bought the truck with only 14K miles on it. The amount of dust these things produce is absolutely ridiculous. I'm considering slapping on the Duralast pads sometime before winter simply because I can't stand the dust and having to clean my wheels after every trip around the block.

I had Motorcraft on my F-150 for awhile, starting out they were great as far as dust and noise. Towards the end they started making so much noise I thought the little rubber things were rubbing.

I ditched them for mid grade carquest pads, smooth sailing so far.

I ran slotted rotors with Duralast CMAX gold pads and the pads warped the rotors in about 8K miles. The rotor company (Rotorpros) warranted the rotors and upgraded them to drilled and slotted for free and i purchased a set of Posi Quiet pads from them and they stop unbelievable with no issues now!!

Machine your rotors and go with a good high quality pad. Like a wagner thermoquiet or something or the other. You buy something cheap, it's gonna perform and last "cheap".

The most sold and installed pads in North America are Wagner Thermo Quiet. They are a little more expensive but worth it.

i use wagner or raybestos, i always use name brand parts and replace and lubricate all hardware and ive never encountered a problem. proper fit and clean install are the key to keeping your brakes working right. as for the dust problems, the softer the pad material is (organic, metallic, ceramic, etc) the more dust youll see.
