Trying to replace the rear wheel cylinder on my "03 Ranger. I can loosen the brake line nut, but the hard brake line starts to turn with it. Any tricks to keep from twisting the brake line?

Heat and lube.

Short loosen and tighten motions.

Repeat until it comes free...

Give the rear brake line a good hard look, if it wants to rumble it may be time to just replace it to the block on the diff.

You could try Gumps method. In my opinion, when it does that it’s time for replacement.

Gump's method works about 50% of the time for me. If it doesn't work, the brake line is junk and hopelessly rusted, just need to replace it at that point.

Yup, usually it’s rusted to junk at that point. I’ve taken to replacing all of the hard lines with ni-copper line and I buy stainless flare nuts to use on it. Then put a little grease on the line where the tube nut runs and walla-walla, you have essentially lifetime brake lines.

I've never had one that I couldn't loosen with heat and either the old Ford Penetrating Fluid or Cyclo Breakaway. Be careful though- brake fluid burns, as does penetrating oil- and fluid expands with heat so when you crack it loose after heating fluid is likely to spurt out.

if its stuck its rusted inside the nut.
brake lines are cheap, I would replace it.

and while you're under there, check the line going from the axle up to the frame.
at that connection the frame side likes to break off where it joins the flex line.
