Brake light switch slop (1987 2.9L Bronco II)

I'm gonna guess here. The portion of the contacts that the switch normally uses are worn. When the switch goes a little farther, the lights still work. I'd suggest replacing the switch.

Looks like they are cheap on RockAuto. Motorcraft for $16 vs $30 for aftermarket at parts store.

SeñorNoob was correct, the contact was worn away, but on the brake pedal, not the switch. A thick piece of paper folded a few time and inserted between the 2 of them fixed the issue, but I will work on a more permanent one. I want to make the brakes more responsive, any tips?

Change the fluid and check for leaks. Bleed it really well. If everything is good there, maybe a slightly different size master cylinder? Can always go with the Explorer/Mustang rear brakes, and a later dual piston front brakes. (That involves swapping axles. It's a lot of work.)
