brake hardware question

ok im looking at getting a set of monroe dynamics dx652 brake pads. they come with all the hardware except the caliper guide. is that really needed?

You only need them if yours are bad.

Smear the caliper pins with fresh grease before reinstallation.

On the surfaces of the caliper bracket where the steel shim clips go be sure to remove all the rust scale under the old clips before installing the new ones.

AFTER you have done so spray any kind of paint you have handy on the ends of the caliper brackets, spray liberally then install the clips before it has a chance to dry.

The idea is a space occupied by paint cannot get filled with water.

and the caliper brackets getting rusty UNDER the clips is the primary source
of brakes binding on '95-up Rangers and Explorers.

I personally use a quick spritz of Duplicolor undercoating
on both the caliper bracket and the inside of the clip then work fast to have the pads in place while the goop is still wet.
