I've been lusting after a new truck for several months now, and narrowed my choice down to a Nissan Frontier or a leftover 2011 Ranger. I wanted a Supercab truck, 4x4, V6 Auto whichever way I went. In the end I just couldn't make myself like the looks of the Frontier, so today I scored one of the last three Rangers available in the area.
It a 2011 XLT 4x4, 4.0 V6 Auto, with a limited slip differential, front/mid/rear skid plates, and Sirius satellite radio. I especially like the Y-Spoke wheels, and that it came with Goodyear tires.
I could probably have done without the Sirius radio, just for the simple fact that I would have preferred to not have the temptation to sign up for it after the 6-month free service expires. But my wife has it in her Mazda CX-9 and my son has it in his Jeep Wrangler, so I'm already a goner!
I really like the Ranger so far. It's very comfortable - much more so than my 2004 'stang. It has a really substantial, solid feel to the way it rolls down the road. I've noticed a little stumble in the engine right after you start it up and put it in gear, but I'm hoping after a few break-in mile that it will go away.
I just drove around in the grass a little in front of the house in 4wd just to make sure it worked. It seems like the 4-Lo is not a low as on my old 'yota 5-speed, but this is the first truck I've ever owned with a automatic transmission, so we'll how it goes after I get used to it.
So far, very nice. I foresee my Mustang not accumulating many miles. But that's nothing new - it's an '04 and only has 36,500 on it now!
