so finally picked up another rbv, got a 94 4.0 5 speed 4x4 for 600$ it needs a throw out bearing. how hard are these to replace? the shop wants 350 labor.

truck also refuses to start with anything less than a quarter tank of gas. idk wtf this could be

Clutch isn't too hard to do. It is easier if you yank the cab to do it as getting at it from underneath is a PITA. Being a 94 it is probably due for cab mount bushings anyhow. On the gas issue do you mean 1/4 tank on the gauge or actual? Sounds like the tank sender is off a bit.

the truck just got a new clutch 6 months ago... should i just buy a cluth kit anyways? and its an actual quarter tank. last time i drove it ( father in laws truck) it ha a quarter tank of gas i went out wouldnt start put a gallon in with a gas can and it fired right up. drove it out of town and it went down to e. says its always been a problem for a few years.

also not sure if its related but when you put gas in it it leaks everywhere. not really bad but it does drip on the ground at a good rate.

ive replaced a clutch but never a throwout. it was on a 4.0 but the engine was out of truck. considering having a shop do it and look over the rest of the truck.

also oreillys said theres a special tool for the throwout. napa said no. i know there is for the clutch.

Well I can't answer your question on the throwout bearing, but the fuel leakage at fill up is due to a bad filler neck. Go to fleabay and get one on there for 40 bucks. pulling the bed is the easiest route, takes about 20 minutes and a helper to yank the bed off, then another 5 minutes to change out the filler neck.

As for why it wont start with a 1/4 tank or below? not sure.. maybe the fuel pump is going bad. if that is the case, swap it out while you have the bed off as well.

i assume it is a weak and dieing fuel pump. and i knew the filler neck was bad. i dont think a throwout will be all that bad to replace. altho i dont enjoy bleeding a clutch. thats the main reason i wanted to take it to a shop.

Any one think there will be anything wrong with the clutch?

rock auto has a clutch kit including the pilot and release bearing for 90$ supposed to be the stock setup. so i might as well replace it all.

if it just had a clutch put in it the throw out should be new too.

why do you think its the throw out bearing? you sure its not the input shaft bearing?

my father in law is the first and only owner of this truck. unfortunately he instead of fixin this right the first time just fixes them as they come up. like he did the clutch without replacing anything else. he used this truck to haul stuff around his junkyard. so the truck has had many of new trannys and engines in it. or such is my understanding from my girlfriend. but i know it has had a recent clutch done. i myself have not looked at or driven the truck recently. i called him today amd he said it needs a throw out bearing.

hes never given me bad advice on car repairs so i trust what he says.

also he never told me what symptoms it had. besides the fact that itll drive for awhile and you have to start it in gear. but i didnt really ask. because i trust him. ill replace the input shaft bearing too.

Hmmmn another 600$ RBV. Mine needed a bunch more than a TO bearing. Anybody who knew Rangers would have junked it. I put 1200 worth of parts into mine. I did all the work. This one is already in the JY, I gar-ron-tee this rig will need a list of stuff to fix before you have a road worthy truck. Unless you drive the truck yourself, or take it apart , you wont know what it needs. It may just need a Master cylinder. or even just a good bleed for the immediate trouble.

its not a pos rbv. it was his daily driver up until last week. like i said hes the only owner. he OWNS the junkyard. it didnt come from the junkyard he bought it new in 94. he recently let his son learn to drive stick so im gonna replace the clutch, flywheel, rear main, pilot, and release bearin while im in there. ive driven this truck before so i know its a good runnin truck. other than the clutch area lol. you sound like some one who should drive an s10. :P

OK, OK, Old Fords are bad enough, please no S 10. That list of clutch bits is pretty much what I did. Plus front calipers and pads , rear brakes ,all the brake lines and hoses. the exhaust and battery. It goes great , but there isnt a good panel on the whole truck. :D

haha yeah i understand what your sayin tho. we have the same story only i know the owner and truck and have for the last few years. being that the truck is almost 20 years old i expect problems. but i also make enough money that i can fix them as they arise. guess in a way im restoring a 94 with fresh parts haha. this truck is rust free tho...
