how much of a difference would it make to get the 2.9 bored 30 over. how much hp will i gain

little to none, I would guess .5 - 1.0 hp and I'm betting I'm being optimistic

Not to mention the extra heat you create by boring the cyl walls. It'd be a wash in the end.

extra heat for .030 over?! the walls aren't that thin!

the displacement will increase only a little bit without stroking the engine you don't see HP gains in boring out an engine. especially an engine that has a very short stroke like the 2.8/2.9l engine family (that's why is has so much low end torque... well that and the long intake runners)... I can't recall the stroke but it's like really short... I'm gonna be stupid and say 3.5 inches.

2.9 engine dimensions are - 3.66X2.83. If you bore .030 over, you will never know you did anything.:)shady

i calculated it, your only gonna get 3 extra cubic inchesm or .05 liter.
