Hey,

Sooo i currently have an 03 ranger with an all too powerful 3.0 in it...ive been doing research to see if the 3L and the 4L share the same block..i know that obviously the 4L with SOHC is different but what about the ones befor they went to ohc the reason im asking is i got a buddy who can bore and stroke my 3L but i dont wanna make the cylinder walls too thin..any help is greatly appreciated...

THANKS!!!!

the 4.0 and 3.0 are in no way related.

you can bore the block out to .060 pretty reliably...and overbore pistons shouldnt be too hard to find. ive heard with some ultrasonic testing, SOME blocks can be bored to .075, allowing for forged 2.0 pinto pistons to be used.

not much can be done in the way of cranks. ive heard with some machining, an SHO crank can be used (its the same stroke).

theres a company that sells a 3.3L stroker, check in the tech library under 3.0.

better than trying to stroke it would be forced induction.

Dang was not hoping to hear that but thanks its a question that ive had the hardest time getting an awnser to....i got question about forced induction...would you recommend me going with a turbo or a s/c cuz when im driving im usally above 3000 rpms so the turbo should be spun up enough to make a difference..also dose any one kno who makes s/c and turbos for rangers...i heard the whipple already stoped making them

whipple was the only company that made bolt on kits for the 3.0...of coarse ANY super or turbo can be bolted onto ANY engine...its just a matter of time, money, and performance.

on a stock motor, you wont be running more than 12 PSI or so of boost (not without blowing head gaskets left and right)...which is usually attainable with a super. the super has the advantage of no lag off the line. a turbo is great for applications when your motor will handle all the boost you can feed it (EG, forged everything)...this is not one of those cases.
