This is more of a rant and rave than anything. I am doing the auto to manual swap in my ranger:3gears:. I should be done with this thing by now seeing how it is going on day 4:mad:. I have had to stop the past 3 night because of f***ing bolts that i either had to cut or didnt have. Example the d*mn x-member bolt would not come out of the sleeve - had to cut that off :icon_welder:. Great now i can get the tranny out, no problem went smooth then i go to put the pressure plate on the new flywheel - no bolts. I have no donor vehicle to pull them from. Trip to ace to get bolts. Awsome, day 3 not hopefully going to finish, me and a buddy get the tranny in there nice and tight go to bolt it up, the bolts from the automatic are to short. See not the truck is sitting there with the tranny help up by the starter bolts cux i am not taking that out again. Now i see why you all said get a donor vehicle before you start, its not for the big things its all the f***ing little things you will forget to buy. Now the truck sits til sunday when i have time to finish

Even with a donor vehicle it works the same. I was stuck for a wee because of a damn tiny line connector.
Sounds like you're making great progress anyways!

no pain,no gain.hang in there.

It happens to every one, this way, you will now ALWAYS remember the little crap for next time:icon_thumby:

When it's all done, you'll see that it wasn't that bad, lol

Keep on a truckin dude!

all in all i would say this is a hell of a lot easier than the tranny swap i did on my old astro van, POS Chevy's, although i am impatiently waiting to get behind the wheel of my baby now that O/D wont just shit out on my at 65.

Getting this done and dealing with the problems along the way are bragging rights for you later.

Keep on keeping on!!

At least you probably got the right master cylinder from the parts store...somehow I made the wrong one work though, that's what scared me.

You're almost there, keep going!

the tranny is a from a 96 ranger, came with the slave and also when the yard pulled it they misaligned the shift rails so that was a learning expirence right there, since i wanted new hydraulics for the swap i decided to go back to the 90 slave in there, should be fine but that made life alot easier. Last night when i filled the tranny with fluid i must of had about 6 guy bi*ch at me for using atf instead of 80w oil, they have a bet out that i will blow the tranny in a week cuz of the ATF in there - they are all chevy guys so what do they know, all i know is that i will win that bet:D (hopefully)

Um, wow. lol

I would honestly put up serious coin on that bet if I were you. 1 week? I would bet the farm that it will last that long, especially if I'm driving it.

Gear oils actually bear the load. Ideally all of the power you are transmitting comes from one gear, to the oil (to prevent metal-to-metal contact), then to the other gear. So in yes, in theory the ATF will not last as long as the 80w because it is lighter. BUT it is also designed for some load bearing. It will do fine with light duty. I hope you get to take their money, foo's
