Bolt pattern

I'd like to find out the various bolt patterns of the different transmissions offered for the Ranger / B series trucks. We're machining adapter plates, and have one available for the transmission below but would like to make additional ones for other common transmissions.

3.0 uses its own bolt pattern. 4.0, 2.9, 2.8 cologne engines share a pattern.

not 100% sure on the 4 bangers, but the 2.3 lima and 2.5 may share a pattern. the 2.3 duratec is different.

are the 3.0 engined vehicles the ones using the Toyo Kogyo transmissions, then?

So the Mitsu was for the 2.3, etc. the Mazda trannies for the 3.0, and the TK ones for the 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0?

no.

transmissions are more related to generation than engine.

the mitsu transmissions were used behind the 2.8, 2.9, and 2.3 limas, as were the TK transmissions.

the mazdas were used behind a few 2.9s, all 3.0s, 4.0s, 2.3 duratec and limas, and 2.5.

Now I'm confused. If the 4.0, 2.9, 2.8 cologne engines share a pattern, and the 3.0s have a different pattern, how could the Mazda transmissions be used behind all 3.0s but some 2.3s, 2.5s, 2.9s, and 4.0s (as well as the 4.0 litre Ford Explorers)?

I see. So TK & Mazda (really the same company) went back to using cast-in bellhousings for truck transmissions?

Clearly it's a Japanese conspiracy to make my life difficult *lol*

i think the TK still uses a removeable bellhousing. all M5OD's (thats the mazda) have integral bellhousings.

So one can't swap bellhousings. Clearly multiple plates, or universal ones with excess metal per application, will be required. :(

Thanks, WS.

its usually easier to just find the appropriate transmission for your engine :icon_thumby:

everything from 1987+ has the same overall length and use the same crossmembers/mounts, ect...so swapping motors and transmissions is easy.

this may not be a popular thing to say on this forum, but the adapter plates are to bolt up an electric motor and convert the Rangers to BEVs.

ahh well why didnt you say so...now youve got my attention :D

you'll need at least 4-5 different plates. 3.0, 4.0/2.9/2.8, and the 4 bangers (either 2 or 3 plates here, im not sure which of the 3 four cylinder engines share bellhousing patterns).

what do these plates adapt to? or are they just solid plates that the user will be responsible for drilling holes in for mounting the traction motor?
