in the 90s (want to say 95 or 96 somebody correct me) ford made for one year a log manifold that breathed about 15% better than the factory cast mani. looks like a short tube header, can be found at jy. other than that the only other header ive seen that will fit our application and bolt up stock is at racerwalsh.com. they have a long tube header that will bolt up to our ranger exhaust flange b4 the cat. ive heard pacesetter and jba makes headers for our rangers as well. i havent seen underdrive pulleys except for the waterpump on 10000+rpm motors at esslinger, we dont need those obviously. i have seen aluminum timing pulleys with adjustable cam gears, they should bring the weight down at least. just look around at the race companies and see what you find. i look at esslinger (esslingeracing.com) racer walsh (racerwalsh.com) and summit (summitracing.com) all the time.
i know for sure 93 and 94 had the header/manifold you're talking about dunno about any newer ones. but if you want some real power increases it's not easy. turbo or at least port/polish and a cam.
easiest way to get butt dyno improvments is to get a rear end with different gears or have urs re-geared.
check your dif tag and see what gears you have, my 3.73s pull like a mother although a lot of guys will tell you 4.10. if you have 3.45 or 3.08 id def look into a regear it helps dramatically. have you done any intake mods as well?
there's really nothing you can do to acheive significant gains without internal modifications, either turbo it, open it up(the head) , both, or put a bigger motor in. there is no such thing as a cheap power gain from a 2.3. also when going to 33's i'd go with 4.56 gears.
for the intake you can take the baffle out of the intake tube for starters. just pull the rocket shaped peice of plastic out of the intake tract.
no larger throttlebody (that i kno of) exists and modifying the maf isnt a good idea either. i run an open filter on my 2.3, but if i still had my factory intake setup id simply swap the cone thing in the intake out with a polished intake tube, as the factory airbox is the same one that feeds a 4.0 and no real gains to be had. didnt realize you were pulling large tires, id free it up with taller gears than 4.10 if you are going to continue to do so. the trick to the 2.3 producing power is in the head from what i gather, no other real way around it.
The header they are speaking of is from a 92 twin plug 2.3L I have one one problem if you have a single plug head earlier than the 92 you more than likely will have the tiny exaust ports below the exaust ports uh this header doesnt have anything that blocks those ports off in fact the they are below the flange on the header so you have 4 nice exaust leaks right there. I've had them welded shut on one of my cast iron heads so you either have to do that to use them or have them modded with a extra flange to hang below to cover them up? They're a nice header though I got my for 50 dollars from a junkyard and they still have the EGR port! Good Luck
racer walsh sells a t/b adapter that uses a 65mm t/b off a 302 mustang an uses a 94 mustang iac . you will have to open up upper intake for the 65 mm t/b blade to clear
Thanks I was just looking at that yesterday but couldnt bring myself to fork over 470 dollars for the throttle body so its off of a 94 I wonder how much trouble it would be to put it on a 88 upper looks like you have to move some of the sensors off of the airbox to the TB....... Thanks I'll start pricing out a more budget friendly version.

if you have a racer walsh catalog read the ad for the adapter it tells you what parts to use. if no catalog go to website an order 1 they will send it free
I see that they are including a few of the sensors and spacers. I found a BBK 65 MM TB for a 95 5.0 for 189. I gather I'd still have to come up with a TB spacer there is another 80 dollars then the TPS and IAC........ Hmmmm Racer Walsh doesnt include the TPS or the IAC either... I'll have to price those out.
Alot better then with the 3.45 gears. I can keep it in 5th for the most of my driving unless its a steap hill. But being that my snow tires are close to 32 & I plan to be running 33 I was wanting more power & I plan to install a set of 4.56 gears down the road hopefully before this years start of winter.
