An idiot smashed into the back of my '87 BII, and I'm having to do much of the repair myself, which includes replacing the muffler and tailpipe. I can get an OEM replacement type muffler (Soundmaster $43 from NAPA) and tailpipe ($26) at reasonable cost, but am thinking this might be an opportunity to go with a SLIGHTLY throatier sounding muffler.

The darn Flowmaster mufflers are $99 or higher! I cannot find a Thrush or other deeper sounding aftermarket unit that appears to have the OEM flange. Are there any moderately priced "throatier sounding" mufflers that would fit an '87 BII that have the OEM flange and accept an OEM type tailpipe section? I am NOT looking for, or expecting, any performance increase. Thanks.

Finding stuff that will bolt up isn't going to be easy or cheap. I'd recomend buying a welder or making friends with someone that has one. Once you can weld, any old muffler or tailpipe will fit.
