Thanks 4 da reply. Other than that one time it fires right up. Would the ignition modual make the truck bog out while running? I spoke to a mechanic todayand said it might be just the fuel filter or fuel pump, or both that's making it bog out. Also cannot find the fuel pressure gauge to let out pressure so I can install the new fuel filter.
Yes, a plugged fuel filter, and or, misbehaving fuel pump will make it "bogg" down or make it have poor proformance.
start with fuel filter, should be on the inside frame rail of the drivers side, near the starter. it is tight to get to, some have better luck taking the starter off, for more room.
as far as the fuel pressure guage goes...there is no guage that is permenantly afixed. There is however, a tire stem like valve up near the drivers side of the intake manifold, it goes into the fuel manifold for the injecters. This is where you would attatch a fuel pressure guage to take a reading to see if your fuel pump is operating correctly, should get somewhere around 30-40psi.
And relieve pressure of the system before changing the filter. Just be ready to with rags to soak up any spilt gas as you depress it. note...best not to depress it with a hot engine.
Was going up the mountain a rough ride?? meaning were you bouncing around quite abit, spilling your ..refreshments with out a lid or was this on a relativly smooth road?? reason I ask...is there is a fuel interia switch inside the cab by the passanger left foot area. this is a saftey item that shuts off fuel in the event of a accident, and limiting the amount of fuel spilling and subsequint fire harzzard. There id a little rest but on top of it (the inertia switch), .....IF this was a rocky ride it could of tripped it, normally you need to push rest button. It may have become faulty giving you this on and off again runnabilty.
Now the TFI has been known to present symtoms as you mentioned, "bogging down" and not run well untill it sat for sometime to cool off...then restart and run fine. Sometimes it also just shuts off like a switch and pull the keys, but usually one can restart after it cools off and get back home.
