I'm trying to get a bit of lift under my truck to make room for some bigger tires. I was looking to do it fairly inexpensivly, but a body lift looks like a major PITA for no improvement except higher ride height. Is it really a bad job installing one, or not really?

Also i was looking at the rough country lift kits and don't really like the idea of drop brackets for everything. I was thinking more along the lines of an autofab econo kit. Seems like the extra couple hundred is worth it for new radius arms and bent beams.

Any opinions/suggestions?

Thanks! :D

Body lifts aren't that bad to install...just make sure you have a breaker bar and some WD-40...also a grinder helps, just incase you cant get one grind the nut off and by new nuts...just dont melt the body mounts as you need to keep those...the cab is the hardest part, but once you get done with that, the bed takes 30 min or so...also the crush brackets for the bed should be welded onto the frame and not bolted...much stronger...as long as you can do that the Body lifts aren't that bad...good luck

ya i think im gonna stay away from a BL for now, thanks for your input :)

My brother put a 3" body lift on his '91 Ranger about 5 years ago. It looked cool but there were a few downsides. The truck had almost 200,000 miles on it when he added the 3" and didn't bother to replace the body mounts, so a year or two later, the truck was leaning to one side because 2 of the cab mounts decayed. I'd say that was kind of his fault.

His truck was a 2.5L 5spd. man. and because the lift only lifted the body up, he had to cut a hole where the actual shifter was because it stays and the body moves up 3". I'm not sure if that was the "right" way to do it or not.

The truck was in rough shape to begin with, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it ot not.

Hope this helps.
