Body lift

Pros and cons of body lift please ?
2000 4 x 4 Ranger

Pro: Cheap way to get space for bigger tires. Can make working on the engine easier. Can allow for easier fitment of a larger engine and trans.

Cons: Does nothing to help with off-road capability. You may need extenders for steering shafts and shifters. If not done properly it can look really stupid. Bumper gaps.

3” here, no regrets. Tons of room around powertrain, easier to get at pretty much everything.

Bigger tires do help off-road too. I have my exhaust routed to come out between the bed and frame, no part of it hangs below the frame.

For what it's worth, at least on a torsion bar Ranger you can do a 1" body lift and not have to touch the steering shaft or anything else. I bought a set of 2" lift spacers on eBay and cut them in half, then picked up a set of bolts at the local fastener shop. Less than $50 for the finished project.

So what's actually involved with doing say a 1 or 2 inch bod lift I don't actually know, imagine it's covered on the instructions of any kit you would pick up, but since I don't have a kit I'll ask here

1) Remove anything prevent access to all the bolts - bedliner, interior carpet, etc.
2) Disconnect the battery as well as any cables that may be stretched during the lifting process.
3) Loosen all of the bolts.
4) On one side of the truck, remove the bolts and then jack up the body enough to slide in the new spacers. Install new bolts and begin threading them down but do not tighten.
5) Repeat previous step on the other side of the truck.
6) Tighten bolts and test drive, then replace any of the items you moved for bolt access.

That's my really short/condensed version of the process off the top of my head. Might have missed a few key details.
