hey guys im looking to a 3'' body lift on my 88 ranger but i cant find any good pictures to see how bad the gaps are on the rear bumper. does any one have any pictures. also how difficult is it to install. any help is greatly appreciated.

The guys here all crack pretty hard on body lifts. I am still up in the air whether I'll put one on mine when I set the cab on the chassis this weekend. There really isn't much to them just some spacers and a steering extension. Some of the kits come with plates to lift he bumpers. I do not know what your fab skills are but they are not too hard to make either. You just need some 3/16ths steel a way to cut it and a drill. Many of he guys here take to opportunity to build custom bumpers when they do the lift. You also may or may not need to extend the shifter. If the shifter hits the console or the dash you may have to bend it or put in a short throw shifter kit. Most body lift kits do not include spacers for the bed. You can lift the bed three inches by using three sections of three inch square structural steel tubing across the frame where the bed mounts. Adds weight helps traction lowers fuel economy. To hide the gaps you can buy another kit for that or get some 4 inch rubber baseboard sections at Lowe's and put them on with screws or pop rivets.

So I may not have given you he information you were looking for. But if you look in the upper right corner of this page you will see a search box. There are several threads about body lifts and many of them have the photos you are probably looking for.

Even if they guys on here start ribbing you about doing a body lift remember it ¡s your truck and you can do whatever you think looks good to it. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Just mod the brackets if need be and raise the rear bumper to match the body lift. Sometime all you gotta do is drill a couple new holes and your done. Nothing cracks me up more than seeing a truck with a body lift and the stupid bumper 3" lower than the bed.....that just looks DUMB.

A 3" BL doesn't look to bad on a Ranger either, did one on my '98 and now I'm doing one on my '97 (along with 4" suspension lift)

This.

The gap is only an inch, tops. I fixed mine by installing a roll pan :D

As far as installing a kit, It's an all day thing and it's not that horrible. Take your time and use a sawzall if you need to. Also, before you lift a side of the body, make sure things are removed from the frame (like the T Fitting for one of the brake lines). Make sure to buy new body mount bushings as well.:icon_thumby:

I installed a 3in body lift once..... it was terrible and looked like a big rolling turd before the gap guards and bumper relocation brackets. Also it busted an AC line and I regretted ever beginning the whole venture. I'm kind of in the Suspension lift, hack the fenders or do nothing club now.

If I ever get around to putting one on mine I'm just goin to take the bumpers off till I build a set.

The gap is as bad as the teeth on that inbred girl you used to date....lol

Build brackets and raise that puppy!!!!

i have a 3inch pa bl on my ranger and im happy with it especially now that i have gap guards it is a cheap and easy way to lift your truck 3 inches. Now also having a 4 inch suspension it is a good combo to get some good lift without breaking the bank , if you are like me my pockets are very shallow due to being 19 and a working student i would go for it. In the end it is how much you want to spend and how much work you can do by yourself. I i cant post pics but i think i have some on my account.

Thanks for the replies i think im going with the 3" bl now and 4" suspension lift later i work in metal shops all the time repairing cnc and one of my customers will make me some custom bumpers.

I will post a pic of a lift that I installed for painting purposes in the next few days. You all may get a laugh out of it ,but it did the job. I built a 20" wooden platform that I bolted to the frame with lag bolts from the bottom & then bolted the bed to the platform using lag bolts in the bed bolt holes. This was for the back of cab & front of bed to be painted. The bed was also set back 20". I drove it to a from the paint shop which was 13 miles away & did I ever get weird looks. When I got to paint shop I removed head lights, tail lights, 3rd brake light, tailgate & gas fill door for a better paint job. They also painted my extra tailgate & a lighted LUND moon visor to match
