I am looking at a 3" body lift for my sons 89 Ranger. Most of the body lift kits say there are no brackets to relocate the bumpers. How are most of you guys dealing with the bumpers on the older Rangers?

You have to make your own brackets. I left the rear bumper alone and placed diamond plate to cover the gap.

just get an actual lift. suspension lifts for those trucks are cheap.

How much suspension lift can I put in without affecting the handling too much?

My 16 year old is going to use this truck as his dd.

A body lift is a piece of cake and significantly cheaper. I picked mine up $240 at my local 4x4 shop. It came with everything that you could possibly need. Radiator relocating brackets, fuel filler extender, bumper brackets, ground wire extensions, steering shaft extender, and of course body spacers and bolts.

It all depends on what your goal is for the rig. If you just want to fit 33's and don't do any hardcore wheeling, then go with a body lift. If you are shooting for more of an offroad build and have the money and time, then a suspension lift is the way to go.

I've owned both on my full sized trucks before. The body lift seems like the way to go. Easy to do and cheap. The truck will see little off road use. I want to be able to put some 31's or so on it. We are just looking to make a nice looking rig for him to drive to school and around town.

Thanks for the info. Just called them and they do not manufacture bumper brackets for 89's. Looks like I may have to break out the :icon_welder:
