Hey guys i am at lost here i rebuilt my 4.0l from top to bottom, rings, crank, bored .030 over, new pistons, bearings, lifters, heads and valves redone. It has ran fine for me for 1200 miles with no problems at all until now. All of a sudden i have tons of blue smoke coming out of my exhaust. I found i vacum line on the throttle body off so i reconnected it and topped off the oil level and started it to see what would happen. Well all the smoke cleared out for about five minutes maybe a little longer then all of a sudden again tons of blue smoke started coming out of my exhaust. Also i pulled out every plug and its coated in oil. and i have oil in my upper intake. Any help with be greatly appreciated? By the wat its a 1993 4.0l Manual? :icon_confused:

Could it be coming thru the pcv system? are the vac lines connected correctly to the system? Sounds fishy to me... If all the plugs have oil on them it MUST be overflow from the valve cover..
My thinking anyway.

thats what i was think but i cant figure it out. it also has a brand new PCV valve and i tried to find any vacum leak but had no luck all were connected.... its really puzzling me
:icon_confused:

If its an automatic ...check your modulator it could be sucking tranny fluid out of trans if the little diaphragm has hole in it.

sure sounds like a PCV problem. Do you have oil in your air filter tube or just the intake?

its in the intake not the filter. it stops right at the back of the throttle body before the butterfly.

i put a new pcv valve in it and checked all my vacum lines and it still happens? any more ideas anybody

Ok lets get this out in the open.. Where is the vac to the pcv? Also what else is connected to a valve cover that has vac in it? I have seen rebuilt heads that threw so much oil spray around in the cover that the vent system HAD to pick it up and put it in the intake system.
You could take the pcv valve itself out and run her a bit to see if there was excessive oil squirting out..

the vacum for the PCV is connected to the junction block right on the side of the intake near the firewall. I didnt know if it was ok to run it for a little with out the PCV capped off.... could the rebuild heads throw off that much spray to cause so much oil to be dumped into the intake?
Thanks Jim

why would it just now start doing it? and how would i go about checking to make sure thats the problem and what can i do to fix this problem?

thanks Jim for all your help

Check the lower intake manifold bolts. Those things are well known for loosening up on the 4.0. If they loosen enough, the intake manifold gasket doesn't seal and it sucks oil into the air passages.

I know when I tightened mine down my oil usage went from 2 quarts between oil changes to a half quart! :icon_surprised:
