Was tearing the motor apart today and decided to look up the casting numbers and think I have a 351 instead of a 302.
Here a the casting numbers that were on the block- E3AE-6015-BA19 And above those we're- 3J6

From what I could find its a 1983 351W is this correct? Any help in decoding the numbers would be helpful.

3J6 indicate Sept 6, 1983 as the date cast.

Thanks, so am I correct that this a 351 block?

I think you can visually see the difference between a 302 and 351

The 351w intake is much wider than the 302, 5.0 engine intake by all most 2 1/2 in do to the taller deck height of the 351w. is a good way to spot the 351w you can also check the part number with a ford dealer parts or online if your still wondering what you have.

Correct, an easy way to tell a 302 from a 351 is by comparing the deck with the top timing cover/water pump/water passageway bolt holes.

On the 302 (and it's smaller displacement bothers), that top bolt is almost at deck level

On the 351, there's an additional 1" of block above the bolt holes to the deck.

Ford78:

E3AE-6015-BA19 =

E - 80s
3 - 3; so EA = 83
A - Full size
E - Engine
6015 - Engine block
BA19 - Change code

If you have tape measure, crank centerline to head is ~8-3/16" (8.200") on 302, while it is 9-1/2" on 351w.

Retraction :) That new picture clearly show ~1" spacing between the head and the water pump bolt. Its a 351w

Thanks guys for the help, I'm pretty sure it's 351 here's a pic of the distributor u can see the added deck height above it. A 302 should be almost flush.
