block heater


depends what you get and how many you use.
 
I had one in a Semi one year, ran my electric bill up 100.00 more each month.

But that was a big truck, 14liters of mean smoky diesel power house.

last winter i had my F150 and the Dakota Plugged in bout everynight and would only be unplugged when they got drove. the cost wasnt too bad IIRC.

its sure cheaper then a hard start and all the work that you gotta put in when your trucks been off for a week and its -45 and no block heater....ask me how i know...

to get it going took: hours of being heated by a 300W magnetic heater, then a few hours of a propane torch into a stove pipe under the engine bay, a can of starting fluid, 2 cans of HEET(had water condensation in the fuel), and a GMC and a Chevy Pickups both jump starting it.
 
What if you have the stock factory block heater/battery warmer? Don't see the wattage listed anywhere, no relay or fuse. Sure it doesn't cost too much to run, how many people start their car in the morning and let it idle for 15 mins without thinking about the cost. I bet Mr. Smoke is going to have his plugged in after he digs it out.

Most factory block heaters (frost plug) run about 500 watts. I think a factory battery blanket is about 80 watts. Buy a cheap plug in timer and have it come on 3 or 4 hours before you want to start it. Saves you money on electricity and prolongs engine life.

if it's parked outside in Alaska, he might want to leave it plugged in all nite....

You won't find one. It's not actually part of the vehicle's electrical system.

The block heater screws into the block, then has a plug in the back for the special cord it uses that runs out the grille and plugs into your wall. It never makes contact of any sort with the vehicle electrical system.
