Blew my torque converter out.

Just blew my torque converter out in my automatic 90 ranger XLT. Slightly accelerated from a stop light and it made a loud whining noise and then a pop. I haven't done much with trannies and don't have enough experience to swap. I got it towed to a mechanic shop where they price checked me on a brand new tranny + labor at around $3,200. My warranty covers $3,000 and I'll have to pay the rest out of pocket. Is this price fair? They aren't screwing me over, are they? $3,000?!?!?! WTF?! My 1996 Explorer was quoted at $2,000 for rebuild with warranty and that was from an Ammco.

Who cares? Your warranty is paying for almost all of it. A brand new transmission and torque converter for $200 sounds like a damn good deal to me.

Well I can't really disagree with that...

Exbass show the oh face?

Did you happen to tell the shop about your warranty before they quoted you that outrageous price? Is this a dealer? If it is it sounds about right. A run of the mill tranny shop should be much cheaper. Ask them if they can do the job for $3k.
