I just finally went in there and did this fix on my '97 and thought I would post the link to the somewhat legendary guide, because the years have made it harder to find:

The door still seems a little hesitant. It was creaky when I first got it moving, and the air mix seems to change less smoothly than I'd like. Still some tinkering to do, but I'm over the big hurdle.

Interesting. I think having followed the first link makes it easier to appreciate the second. I did my nail along the axis of the round edge. Maybe I'll re-try it diagonally to see if I get better rotation.
