black rims

im rolling on the stock silver 03 rims how would i go about painting them black while maintaining the stock look?

I just painted mine yesterday, just degrease them or make sure to clean the surface area really well and grab two cans of Flat Black or gloss Black and go at it. If you have locking front hubs instead of Automatic 4X4 I'd tape the hubs off before spraying them. Make sure you spray in stages and keep off the rim a good 6-8 inches so the paint doesn't run on you, other than that you should be fine if you take your time and go over everything. Powder coat them. They should fit in your oven if you don't mind the smell.

whats gonna hold up better powder coat or rattle can? how should i prep them besides degreasing??? sorry bout the newb questions

Powder Coating will hold up better but its going to cost a good bit to get it done and if you ever chip or scratch the hell out of your rims while 4wheeling around rocks and shit your going to have to have them re-coated which is just $$$$ down the drain.

Now with spray can you can Re-spray them anytime you want for around $2-3 and it will last just fine if your just driving around town and for 4wheeling you can keep a can in your truck and respray the rims if they get scarred up. To degrease get a simple can the stuff from Kragen or Autozone and spray the rims then spray it off w/ a hose or take it to a car wash and spray it w/ a pressure washer. Then dry the wheels complete and let them dry, then go ahead and start painting.

If I were to do it, I'd go w/ the rattle can until I got some Wheels that were Black in color from the beginning instead of wasting the money on powder coating stock wheels.

some one tried rattle canning my rims silver they looked really nice till i used the armor all wheel cleaner and what do you know i have black rims under neath i didnt get all the silver paint off so i have silver rims with black streaks running through them.

you have to use a few coats not just one, then you'll be fine if you just want them flat black since all I do is spray off the rims w/ a hose. Now w/ Gloss black and cleaning them w/ Armorall I can see that happening.

Get wheel paint. It comes in a spray can. And it'll actually hold up to the heat from your brakes on the highway.

I know Autozone sells it, it sits on the shelf next to the brake caliper paint.

i think it might help to sand them some so the paint will stick and not peel off
