BII stick; noisy gears

My BII has what I believe to be a Mitsubishi FM146 Transmission based on the fact that it has what resembles a mini oil pan with 12 bolts and a drain plug, which is more of just a square piece of metal and not really a pan at all.

The tranny functions almost like new, but the gears can get quite noisy when under a load (like when you're trying to accelerate at around 1500 rpm or less). At first I thought it was the clutch but it doesn't slip at all. The previous owner said he had a clutch put into it, but he wasn't exactly a rocket scientist when it came to mechanics so I want to remove whatever fluid is in it (calls for 80w gear oil, maybe he filled it with ATF? Or maybe the fluid all leaked out) and replace it with new 80w.

Can't find much info on this transmission. What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a gasket for that oil "plate" on the transmission. I don't want to put fluid into it and just have it leak out everywhere, and I don't want to pull it apart and ruin the gasket just to find out I can't get a replacement. This is my daily driver. Maybe I just re-seal the thing with RTV?

Also, do any of you know what else would cause noisy gears but let the transmission function perfectly fine? I'm not much of an expert on transmissions.

You are not being very smart here. If you have a transmission noise and you have not checked the level of your fluid . . thats bad. You could be literally ruining your trans. Manual transmission , unless treated badly, go bad for one reason . . low fluid levels. The transmission will sling oil on all parts as it spins. The level has to be such that it will sling the fluid. Here is an example. I bought an '89 Ranger many years ago. It had 117K miles on it. It was a 5 speed and had some trans whine. Its "typical" for these to do that, but because they run low on fluid. My transmission has three rubber plugs that dry and leak. First thing I did was put it on the lift and check the level. It was low as expected. I added fluid, sealed the rubber plugs and now at over 202K miles . . no noise has returned. I was lucky that no damage had happened up until the point that I filled it and stopped the leak. You need to today . go out and check the level. This is not a " I'llget to it " things . unless you want to be buying a transmission. I have rebuilt many manual transmissions., mostly Mustangs. I see damage from low fluid levels . . check it!

I'm thinking low fluid, or wrong fluid. If its got the wrong fluid in it which is supposed to be 80-90w its not being lubricated properly and causing the whining noise. My 84 Bronco 2 has a slight whine in 5th gear only but its slowly going away now after having the transmission fluid changed which looked to me like it was kind of low to begin with, but its getting better now so probably combined old fluid and the low fluid level was making it whine.

Def check/fill the trans fluid ASAP. The pan does not need to be removed, just take out the big bolt in the middle. If you do take the pan off get some MOPAR black ATF resistant RTV. Tha is some good stuff and stands up to anything.

The transmission is currently out of my Bronco 2 since the PO decided to strip the bolts that hold the flywheel on so I figure now is a great time to service it and the U-Joints. Fluid level was about a pint low as far as I could measure out.
