Biggest Ford I've ever worked on...

We have several other good oil pans on the other engines we have, but they all run and belong in their own tanks. So we decided to fix this one instead of being short an oil pan, and thus an engine.

Oil pan is fixed.

Baffels and sump put back in.

I also made new gaskets for the oil filter (no, it's not a fram...or anything like a automotive filter) and oil pump. Sunday, I'm putting the oil pan back on, installing the filter, pump, and starter. Giving it a really good cleaning, and painting it. Then everything starts going back in at some point thereafter.

I would love to see you walk in to the Zone and ask for a gasket kit for that...lol!

the GAA V8 was a SOHC motor right?

No. It's an 1,100 cubic inch all aluminum (block, heads, oil pan, valve covers) DOHC engine. Which produces something like 500 hp and over 1000 lb/ft of torque from idle to 2500rpm. It's nothing short of a beast. It lives up to that in every respect.

It's really a first of it's time. Pretty advanced technology for the day.

Would it fit in a Ranger? :icon_twisted:

Well, they put one in a mustang, so I suppose it may be slightly possible. Well, not really. It'd probably be partially in the cab. The problem comes when you're trying to cool it. Even if you make enough room for the engine, the radiator and cooling fans this thing needs are about 100 lbs a piece for the fans alone. Don't even get me started on the radiator...

Wow. :icon_surprised:

I still slightly hate you in jealousy for getting to work on this duster...

:D

I just can't wait until it's up and running again. I've never gotten to drive it yet, but I know how to. The oil pan was busted before I started working there, and since I knew almost everything about this tank already, I was put in charge of it and I'm doing pretty much every single thing myself. I like it that way, and it's a blast.

Once we run it a day or two, we'll crush some GM products...then it'll be broken in right.:icon_thumby:

Coming back together.

The internals.

What spins the shafts on the sides of the engine to drive the cooling fan gear boxes.

Tomorow it gets cleaned and painted, along with some other parts. Also, waiting on some custom made (NOS is extremely rare) exhaust manifold gaskets to get here. Two of the 8 exhaust gaskets (4 per manifold, one per cylinder) was blown out and needed to be replaced, so we're getting a bunch made so we have some extras also.

Crushing cars isn't that far off now...:icon_hornsup:
