I have an 88 supercab ranger with a 2.9L. I have gone thru many batteries and they have always been smaller that what will fit. This next time, I wish to get the biggest Optima battery that will fit.

What is the bigget size battery that will fit in the stock location? I know that I could go out and measure, but I thought that some of you might know off hand. I'm not just looking for the measurement in inches, but rather the group size of the battery.

Thanks in advance

I believe its the 66,Ill look tomm. and tell you for sure.

Yup, should be a 65 series.

83-88 L4 2.0 =group 64
86-88 v6 2.9= group 64
I was wrong about the 66,Its used in Lincolns where the battery is mounted in the trunk.
Should be a funky shaped tall battery,if it is you can trim the bottom of the try to fit a 65.

I'd go with something other than Optima anyway... I've heard numerous accounts of them not being as good as they used to be...

Advance says OE group size was 63. Yet what is being offered as a replacement is group size 56 at advance, napa and autozone.

I got the red optima and can leave my 1,000 watt sytem pushing 1 loud ass L7 12" Kicker up about halfway maybe more for at least thrirty minutes(haven't tried it longer then that) with car off, lights don't dim with bass, and haven't had a problem since I've been using them.

Hello

I use an Exide Purple Haze deep cycle in my 88 B2 and it came out of my 85 B2. A 78dt and group 65 will fit.

Thanks for the advice. I have never had battery problems, the current one has been in there for 5 years and I will probably be replacing it soon. It just looks like there is room to go longer and taller.
