Hey guys, I have a 98 Ranger 4x4 3.0 5speed w/3.73s. Right now I have a set of P235/70R16s on it, and Im thinking about going up to an LT245/75R16 I know that this isn't a LOT bigger than the stock tire, but it is a touch heavier, and the tread will be more agressive (I'm thinking of trying the Wrangler DuraTracs). I was wondering how much, if at all my gas mileage should be affected? I know this is a pretty general question, but if someone could give me some insight... that would be great! Thanks.

I think you should go with 265/75R16's, they fit fine. Second, when I had 245/70R16's on my truck I was getting around 14.7. I don't know what the deal is, but I can't get the 18+ MPG most of the guys on here claim they are getting.

The 3.0 is a dog anyway and needs rpm to make any power. 245/75-16 isn't enough bigger to make a difference but I wouldn't go any bigger than that since you have 3.73 gears. I used to have a '99 with the same drivetrain and gears and know whereof I speak.

On my '06 with the 4.0L and 5 Speed, I went from the stock 255/75R16 to 275/75R16 to gain a little more land coverage per rotation. If I spend half my time in neutral I can reach a full 20MPG (living in the mountains, driving in neutral half the time is possible). I saw a total average gain of 1.2MPG in stepping up in tire size. The 4.0 has power in excess for such things, the 3.0 may struggle with the increased rolling resistance.
