so i'm looking to either get a 32x11.5 or a 33x10.5 tire. either bfg a/t or bfg m/t. how are the m/t's on gas mileage. also how loud are they

I have a set on my super duty and when i bought them they were supposedly a month old and now i have put 30k on them and there is still a good quarter tread left i'm very happy with them...............

well compared to a street tire or an a/t

Anytime you add larger tires then stock your stupid gas milage goes down. Nobody on this sites gets 24 mpg with 33-35 inch tires. Some tires (AT for instance) will not really give more or less then mudders. Mudders are noisy compared to AT tires and maybe a bit less gas milage. But every body's truck on different tires will vary. Google the information if you can't figure it out, Bro. That is what I do a lot...lol

compared to what
Besides the size, there is rolling resistance. An all-season has less rolling resistance than an all-terrain which has less rolling resistance than a mud-terrain.
On my Sport Trac I replaced the stock all-seasons with all-terrains last year. Same size as stock. I instantly lost 2 mpg on the highway according to the digital mpg thingy in the dash.

:idiot:

Careful with the assumptions there... I get pretty close to that with my BII. (22, occasionally 23 MPG). Someone with a 2.3L probably would have no problem getting 24 if they've geared correctly for the 35s.

However I don't see a tire's tread itself having all that great of an impact on gas mileage. The design of the tire's carcass will have greater effect (especially if you're comparing bias-ply to radial). BFG MTs and ATs seem to be pretty much the same tire aside from the tread pattern.

I have pre KM 255/75R17 (about 32") BFG MTs on my 90 Ranger 4x4 with 2.9L, 5 speed and 3.73 gears, I get about 18-19 mpg in mixed driving. I would probably top 20 if I were driving at a constant highway speed (55-60 mph) for any measureable distance.

The noise wasn't too bad when the tires were brand new but after 20,000 or so miles they are starting to be a bit noisier, nothing too bad though yet.
