Best way to ship a tailgate?

I'm still baffled by a feller in Arizona getting a clean tailgate from Pittsburgh.

What the Hell kinda crap is that!!

Cannonball Run crap. 😎

It's because there aren't any Ranger tailgates left in Arizona.

They all got shipped to Pittsburgh over the years, to replace rusted-out tailgates.

Believe it or not, it is the original tailgate of my 1988, a rare no letters, no aluminum plate one.

The bed it was from melted in a car wash, due to being mostly milk cartons, beer cans, and spackle covered in rustoleum (not joking). The tailgate is completely fine.

But...

Don't you need a clean tailgate?

No dice on harbor freight. Manager said they ended the program during coof.

Sad!
That's when Amtrak ended their freight shipping service, too.

You might look into putting it on a pallet and sending it LTL freight. It would be more expensive if you don't have access to a loading dock and need a liftgate truck to pick it up and/or drop it off, but it seems like it cost us $150 or $250 or something like that when we were shipping pallets of books halfway across the country a few years ago. A couple of our local self storage places had full height loading docks.

If this had come up a little while ago you might have been able to get it as far as Gallup, NM or northern Arizona with someone going on Poverty Tour. But since that starts in Joplin, MO on the morning of the 1st it's probably too late to try that from Pennsylvania.

Tried all the pick n pulls with no luck, marketplace and other sites for people parting out their rangers but 96% of the time i dont get a response lol

I looked into Fastenal a few years ago and was told they didn't ship to the West. I don't remember if it not west of the Mississippi, or not west of the Rockies. Have you checked Forward Air? I used them a few times a while back. They were a pain in the ass and I hated them, but they were pretty cheap.
Have you tried Craigslist? I've seen a couple tailgates for sale out in the desert area.
I still have the NOS tailgate shell that I mentioned in another thread. If it could work for you, I expect to be driving through Phoenix in the next month or so and could arrange a delivery.

Holy crap, you're alive!

How the hell you been??
Good. Getting old. New job. New to me Jeep Rubicon. Still have two Rangers on the road and the V8 Ranger is getting the final things wrapped up on an AFR head swap and PimpXS. The tuning process should be a nightmare.

I've found nearly NOS tailgates all over the place online. Every state you can imagine. I've collected a few almost new ones myself to store in the shed just in case. About once a year I find an ad online for some old business that's cleaning out their storage and have multiple Ranger tailgates that were removed when new for camper shell additions, etc. In fact there's one on Craigslist right now I believe.

Right now I need to find a 1st gen hood that's nearly new..
