Before someone can chime in? To locate the correct stall torque converter it's normally done by looking at the power curve of the engine---as in, what type of cam are you running in the engine. To high or to low and you'll miss out on the power band "Butter Zone" for the engine.

Its a stock motor come out of an 87 mustang im running a edelbrock performer rpm intake and 600 cfm carb.

2500 stall and a decent cooler will be fun. I had a buddy that ran a 2800 on his stockish 400 in his bronco. He said it wasnt bad on the road.

Pretty much stock I take it then. Knowing the gears and tire size will help too. Reguardless of that a stock engine isn't going to benefit with a converter over 2500 rpm, stock is around 1800-2000. The cam is a large factor in converter selection but if you don't have an engine to back up a beefy cam you still aren't going to make power. Also remember stall converters build heat. A little higher than stock not too bad but if you go past 2500 start looking for a bigger cooler.
