I have a 4.0 for my truck, but want to do a soft-rebuild on it before I drop it in.

I was told it ran very well and I trust the guy I bought it from, so there shouldn't be any major issues inside. I just want to do rings and bearings.

What is the best bang for the buck on ring and bearing kits for the early 4.0?

another good place to get parts from I used in the past was Northern Autoparts. naparts.com

I had to order some parts when I was stationed in Germany and they were one of the few at the time that would ship to me.

The guy I bought the engine from recommended Northern, but I dont see a rebuild kit from them anymore.

EDIT: Found the NAP kit. It is a little cheaper but comes with head bolts where the RockAuto one does not.

Being a soldier at the time I was very happy with the customer service i got , and the fact they shipped to me with out adding extra shipping charges to send to an APO.

There was another place out of the western end of Canada I had ordered from as well. The Instructor at CTC had a catalog from them and they were another one they impressed me with service. I just can not remember what company it was.

I ordered the stuff from NAP. Most of it was the same stuff, I think the big difference was Melling instead of Sealed Power for the bearings.

Ring and bearing kit, with gasket set and head bolts, rockers and push rods, all shipped for about $20 less than RA wanted before shipping and after an 11% discount code.

Is there a known issue with the engine? Or are you doing it as a baseline?
