You tube is your friend.

Most people will suggest a chambered muffler, like a flowmaster 40.

im running the 50 series delta flow on my 3l and i love the sound. its deep when idling, has a good rumble in the low r's, and then is pretty mellow at cruising speed, which is nice because i hate having exhaust so loud you cant carry on a conversation with someone in the truck or even think to yourself.

i plan on just replacing the muffler. i dont like the fact that the exhaust is quiet and i like to get noticed.

so from what im gathering from what people have said is that the flowmaster 40 series.

what about a cherry bomb? im just wondering.

I know others will disagree on here, but I think duals on a ranger is a complete waste of time and money unless you have a V8. Then you can run duals.

Are you changing the muffler only? Or the piping also?

On a 4L Ranger my friend had a standard 40 on his 94 4L and it sounded really good. He ran SI/SO 2.5 piping all the way back to the stock location. I ran the standard 40 on 94 3L for 6 years and I recently tried the 44 & it took sometime to get used to. The sound difference in all. After I had it for 2 weeks and I put the 40 back. It still sounded good, but I did not want the tin hollow sound anymore so I put the 44 back on & I really like it. I am running 2.5 piping all the way back also. I would suggest the 44, the 40 on the 4L engine had a slight hollow sound to it.

see the misconception is with that is duals. its more dual tips over a dual exhaust.

dual exhaust is 2 pipe for each side of the motor and they dont connect other than a balance pipe. they dont both going into one then back into two.

Most people run single inlet and dual out let mufflers which gives you dual tips.

I thought that the flowmaster 40's were more for people who had V8's? One of my friends said I should get a single chamber race muffler from flowmaster but all the 40's are double. What are you're guys opinion on this? (I have a V6) Don't want to jack the thread, but I kinda have the same question, but I want mine to be loud and withstand the elements

Delta 50 all the way...I have the american thunder cat-back on my 91 4.0...It's sounds great from 3000rpm and up but the real tone for me is between 2300 to 3000rpm...Nice and deep and smooth to...not raspy. But it's not loud enough for me so i got a super 44 on the way!!!:yahoo:

muffler choices

The 86 ranger i built lost both the 4.0 cats in the swap an reciveid a 3" inlet pipe from they maifold y-pipe to a flowmaster 40 series with a single stepdown 2.5" tailpipe. you'd think it was a v8 if you didn't listen close and it piss off the ricer guys cause i can drowned them out out a light, not to mention the power gains.
