Best muffler under $50 for sound?

I'm looking for a nice sounding muffler to replace my stock 3.0 muffler, on a shoe-string budget! It's got to be a chambered muffler, no straight-thrus, available at the box stores like Auto Zone and VIP, sound really good (for its price, of course), and fit into the stock position (side in, center out).

So who's got a ghetto-fabulous setup to share with me?

(btw, it's a '99 3.0 5-speed 2wd XLT)

Any flowmaster knock-off, as well as the Cherry bomb pro. My flow knock-off is made exactly same as the "real" ones, and the quality is equal or better and can be picked up for $40 or less.

my best for under $50, was a flowmaster 40 from a buddy that i scored for $40 brand new in the box.... just ask around, mayb at a local muffler shop, i know a lot of guys who basically give em away cause when they get duals the get a dual outlett and ditch the single out

V-force, It is a flowmaster 40 copy, it sounds the same and is cheap.

Pick up a dynomax or a magnaflow

Dynomax and Magnaflow may actually out perform a flowmaster as they are basically a glasspack in a muffler shell. They do not have the sound quality of a flowmaster. Flowmasters really sound much better on a v8. I have flowmasterts on both v8s and v6s, They do sound pretty good on my 3.0s. If you go to my photobucket, then go to the sub album "black frog" there is a short video that has exhaust. If you go to the sub album "deranged mudder" you will find a short clip of what flowmasters should sound like.:D

Thanks for all the answers! I decided on the Thrush welded 2-chamber, because it was under $40 and on the shelf at the local Advance Auto. I'm a bit miffed though. The exhaust on the 3.0L is only 2" after the cat?? Is that ID or OD?

Exhaust pipe is always listed in od. When you buy a 2" muffler it will be 2" id so that it will slip on 2" od pipe.
I'm running 2 1/2" custom pipes on my 3.0s.

That may be the handiest tip I've gotten in years! Thanks.
I got the muffler on, with a 2.25" pipe out the side just in front of the rear tire. My wife says it sounds like a much bigger truck now. LOL, I think she likes it. It sounds good to me!
