OK I read the sticky but still need some advice...

94 2.3 4x2. I am looking for a rear locker that is relatively good/cheap when i use the truck as a daily driver and that i take off road to get to hunting/fishing/camping places. Just mild stuff but there are a few places i cannot get right now and i think a locker would get me there. But i also use the truck as a daily driver. would this be a good/not so good option for me? if it is a good thing, any recommendations?

how much you lookin to spend? a lock rite would be cheapest and easiest. but iirc like a detroit you'll have to adjust your street driving. if your not willing to do that a selectable locker like an elocker, ox locker, or arb. but those are more expensive.

i don't believe in l/s's so i didn't mention them.

i was hoping between 200-300. how much would a selectable go for? hard to install?

Definately a Lockright. It doesn't take that much to get used to it. In a week you'll pretty much forget about it. It take a slight amount of intelligence not to spin out with it--like a mild thickening at the top of the brain stem is enough. Read the booklet that comes with it and it will tell you how it works and you'll be able to figure out why it drives like shit when you use too much throttle, or too little, on curves and turns.

I put a Lock-Rite in my 2.3L It has bigger tires, but the street driving is just fine unless you mash it on sharp turns pulling out of gravel lots or something. Then it likes to shreak a bit. If you're an "easy rider," then I think the Lock Rite will work great. Always got both your tires spinnin'!!!

Oh, by the way, a Lock Rite is probably the cheapest locking option, next to welding the spider gears. But, it may be a real pain in the butt to install if your gears are kinda deep. I had 4.10s in my truck and it was a royal pain to install, especially because I didn't really know what I was doing. If you get a Lock-rite, let me know, I can help give you hints about how to install it.

after looking at that link, how do you tell what size you have? 7.5 or 8.8?

No selectables for your 7.5. I daily drove with lockers for a long time and it's no problem, I actually prefer it so I'm planning to put a Detroit in my truck

The lock-right for the 7.5 is more expensive than most, it's around $400 IIRC.
