Best headlight?

Do what 4.0B2 posted and use these bulbs:

I am very positive that it should be a direct fit, no wiring up new bulb sockets.

with the LMC housings and 9003 bulbs (yes 03's.. i said 04's above, i'l correct that) it is plug and play. HOWEVER i highly recommend that you use the wiring harness LMC offers to, it adds relays to the system and stopped my melting dimmer switch problem.

now i'm gonna go find some good 9003's in a white white.. might even try the ones linked above.

an '88 uses GLASS 200mm rectangular headlamps

the Cibie replacements are probably the best made but are "unobtanium" since the importer went out of buisness.

On my 1987 I run the Hella "e-code" H4 replacement headlamps.
and I run "stock" level 65/55w H4 bulbs (Currently Osram brand bulbs)

i'm running the lights from LMC and I'm happy with them. I want to find a whiter bulb but overall i like it. they cost more than the eBay ones but they are well worth the extra money IMO. uses a 9004 bulb (i think... lol)

however, without using their heavy duty wiring kit... i was melting dimmer switches. their wiring kit is plug and play tho.

me too i really like mine too! they are bright and look cool too! my original lights were melting mine before i switched

You said it, without projectors all of that is true yea, but with projectors it's perfectly legal, better on other drivers than halogens, and more effective at lighting up the road.

Actually its still technically illegal even if you add projectors. According to what ive read and heard about HID lights they can only be on vehicles that come stock with them. Otherwise it is against DOT regulations. You most likely wont get busted for it, but illegal non the less. I have to disagree that they are easier on other drivers than halogens if you have projectors. Ive known people that retrofitted projectors into their lights for HID and they still blind other drivers. I dont know of any projector retrofit that ive seen that are very effective. Do they light up the road better? No question. But they can also light up other drivers faces very easily with or without projectors. Off-road though they are top notch along with LED.

I've had Cibie headlamps in the past, I think I still have the 7" round Z-beam I originally had
on my Dart GTS, I know I still have the 5-3/4" quad lights off of my Saab 99 Turbo.

Unfortunatly my 200mm rectangulars were lost in one of many deer strikes.

And not more than an hour ago I was "fondling" my Series 35 Yellow foglamps

So I'm very familiar with Cebie lamps and know they are very good, but they are NOT worth
THOSE prices compared with the various Hella lamps.

Back when Eurotire sold Cibie lamps an you could actually buy replacement parts
(this is back in the mid-late 80s) they were a lot cheaper, priced competetively
with Hella lamps. which made their superior quality far more economical

But then reality rears it's big ugly horned head and it's even nastier fangs
and I conclude that as nice as Cibie lights are they are TOO nice to meet
the typical "nasty end" that reality has in store for them on the front of my vehicles

Do this and get some good bulbs.

I am also of the thought that Silverstars suck. They just do not seem to last, even with taking every precaution there is when installing bulbs. This really seems to go for every Hyper White (or whatever you want to call it) bulb I have tried that basically has a painted coating on it to give it its color

i have been running the silverstar ultras for the past year and still havent had one burn out. they are a really bright white light. i wouldnt get anything else besides these after running them

In my other car I went with HIDs (have projectors and HID were an option, i just didnt have) but figured they were overkill for the truck. So, since every "hyper white" bulb I have ever bought has not lasted, I just bought the ones at Harbor Freight Tools when they were on sale for $5.99 a piece (head and fog lights). Been a year and just had one fog light burn out

The silver stars throw good light but they are horrible overpriced and burn out way too early.

I got some ceramic headlight sockets off eBay for greater heat resistance and also a set of 55/100 watt headlights, plain clear glass, not the funky blue/xenon/like HID ones that are universally craptastic.

They're working great so far, tons of light on the highway at night, but I haven't had them in long enough to comment on longevity.

So the ones from lmc and the heavy duty harness are good lights? Also whats the best HID light for an 88 if i decide to go that route. And on the lmc ones is everthing just a plug and play? like the harness and light itself? And if i got hids would they be plug and play or need modification? thanks
