I got a 1988 ranger 4x4 supercab. And the stock lights just arent bright enough. I don't want to spend a lot of money on HID's but what is the best and brightest light that I can get just to plug in? I dont want to change the wiring or anything. Anybody got any links to websites or anything? thanks.

Well i would say phillips xtreme power, but thats not an option. You may have to go with sylvania silverstar. And good call on not going HID

stay away form silverstar there junk

So the sylvania sliverstar headlights are no good? Also the headlights I have now are the ones that came on the truck so i dont know what kind they are i know there sealed beams but i took them off and they have one big bulb in the middle and a smaller bulb below but the smaller one isent hooked up is it suppos to be if so how do I hook it to stock harness? i looked some headlights up on ebay that look just like mine and they are hid projector lights.

I'd recommend against the eBay lights. They're very cheaply made. I don't like mine at all..

Yes i have. The lens are clear. Also am thinking about going with the silverstars. Are they anygood or should i just get a set of brand new of orginal headlights?

To be honest Im not a fan of any sylvania headlight. They dont seem that bright and dont last very long but from what I was able to gather it doesnt seem like there are a lot of options for your truck.

How hard is it to switch to a composite headlight? Also are hids just bulb that you put in a composite headlight?

i'm running the lights from LMC and I'm happy with them. I want to find a whiter bulb but overall i like it. they cost more than the eBay ones but they are well worth the extra money IMO. uses a 9004 bulb (i think... lol)

however, without using their heavy duty wiring kit... i was melting dimmer switches. their wiring kit is plug and play tho.

Why would you say good call on not going HID. It's the most effective light there is...

illegal in most states
usually blinds other drivers (even when aimed down, yes i know.. i've been there, done that, tried to aim them low enough... without proper housings they blind people)

but yes, the most effective lighting there is. well, that or maybe LED, but that's still expensive.

You said it, without projectors all of that is true yea, but with projectors it's perfectly legal, better on other drivers than halogens, and more effective at lighting up the road.

an '88 uses GLASS 200mm rectangular headlamps

the Cibie replacements are probably the best made but are "unobtanium" since the importer went out of buisness.

On my 1987 I run the Hella "e-code" H4 replacement headlamps.
and I run "stock" level 65/55w H4 bulbs (Currently Osram brand bulbs)
