Best antifreeze?

What is the best coolant for a 2000 v6 3.0? I have read good things about the Zerex G-05 and I believe I have used this years ago in this truck on a previous engine but want to make sure I am using the right coolant. I am flushing the system multiple times right now with distilled water before I add anything.

I'd go with plain green, flush it every 3 years and you'll be fine.

OEM is always best. I'd change it very 3 years, even if it claims to be a 5-year coolant.

You'll be OK. From all accounts the G05 is great coolant. I just think it's overkill at twice the price.

That said I always do a once per year rad drain and fill with the SuperTech.

Seconded. That's what I used in mine (well, actually the non-mix plus gallon jugs of distilled water, because it was a bit cheaper that way).

That is what I used (G05) in the 08 because that is what Ford wants in it. I use what Ford calls for spec wise for each vehicle and it has changed over the years (its in the owners manual and you can find it online). I don't think the brand has much to do with it.

Ford says to use the gold/G05 antifreeze in my 2004 as it is phosphate free. I believe that the green and orange types are not.

Color is usually good to go on but..............

There are only 3 base types of coolant/corrosion protection
First was silicate and phosphate corrosion inhibitor, usually Green
Used for.........well still used so forever
Needs 2 to 3 year change interval, works just fine as coolant and corrosion prevention

OAT(organic acid technology), Red or Pinkish colors, shouldn't be mixed with above
silicate base.
GMs DEX-COOL is OAT, it is orange
5 year change interval

HOAT(hybrid organic acid technology), uses silicates and OAT, loads of colors, Ford is Yellow/gold, Chrysler did an Orange HOAT, similar color to GM's OAT
Often hyped as life time coolant, but is really 5 year

But here is the thing, I use coolant based on how long I think I will get by without a coolant leak, or have a problem where I will have to drain coolant, lol
So I use silicate GREEN in everything, because I am by nature a pessimist.
I don't mind being happily surprised by making it to the change interval

If you want to use Green and were using OAT or HOAT then drain coolant and refill with distilled water, do a few under miles, NOT in the winter, lol
Drain it and then fill with Green cheap stuff.


The anti-freeze part is either ethylene glycol and propylene glycol and would last forever on it's own, so no change interval for that part.
And water pump lube is also added
