Best 4.5" angle grinder?

I use a Milwaukee Magnum 5" 12 amp grinder. You can cut and grind all day with it. They run any where from $150 -$250. Amazon has it for $150
I just run a 4 1/2" disc on them

i have a MILWAUKEE 4 1/2 inch grinder that my parents gave me for christmas when i was 16....i have used, abused, run it hard, burned hundreds of wheels, cut frames down for scrap....im 25 now..that grinder has been running strong with no issues for 9 YEARS... all of my power tools say MILWAUKEE on them and i have had no issues with any of them..


i have blown makita's in a day..

black and deckers in an hour..

toasted a dewalt..ergos werent for me anyways..

power tools are an investment, kinda one of those things that seperate the "men from the boys"...go with the best damn tool you can afford and you will have it for life..buy nice or buy twice.

I have a 4.5 inch Ryobi grinder got it at home depot I love it's cheap and works great I've used to cut exhaust, bed bolts, and cutting sheet metal. I've had it two years and still works like new. For 40 bucks it can't be beat.

I've got 2 of them in the "outside" shop - one is a Black & Decker that I've had for maybe 30 years, that has only had to have the brushes replaced once. The other one is a Ryobi that I got a couple years ago. I have one set up with a grinder disc, the other has a cup-brush on it. Easier to either have both handy already plugged in, or switch plugs, than to have to change attachments on one grinder. In the "downstairs" shop, I have a 4" Wel-Bilt that I got at Northern. It's "just in case" I need one inside, so I don't have to trek outside. I had to fab a new handle for it, but it's good otherwise.

i've had a dewalt angle grinder since 2004, paid ~$50 for it. stills works like the day i bought it, it's just dirty as hell. i only use dewalt wheels on it and it just recently shattered it's first wheel.

i tried out a Skil from lowes last year and it kept getting bogged down, so i returned it. i may get another at some point, that way i can use one for cutting and keep a grinding or sanding disc on the old one

I have a shitty Black And Decker one outta Walmart, and its gotten some good use over 2 years, still going strong, only cost $28.

That is what I have. I got it cheap 3 years ago with a cuttoff wheel for when I pulled a 8.8 out of an Explorer in a guys garage just in case I needed it. Didn't need it then, but it has worked fine on various projects since. I mainly use it to wire wheel rust/paint/powdercoat. When I need to cut I usually use air if I can.

If it died tomorrow (and I doubt it will) I would get another one. By no means is it getting commercial use, but it does what I need it to.

only used 2 different ones. a Bosch which works great for 3 years strong and a harbor-freight which sucks bad and i only use it for paint removal

Expect the trigger to stop working some time soon. I have that exact grinder, and the trigger died at 2 years. When I bought it there was a guy looking at grinders beside me, and saw the Ryobi in my hand. He said he was looking for a replacement for the same grinder. He said the trigger failed after awhile..... I took the chance thinking he just got a bad one, but I guess that was a weak point of the grinder.

Still, it was/is a decent tool except for the trigger. Im going to try something different when I get the cash. Maybe a Ridged or Dewalt.

Both of my Harbor Frieght ones are still going strong after 14 years 10 of those years I worked as a Millwright and they got used every day. One is loaded with grinding or sanding wheels the other wire wheels. I've burned up DeWalts and Makitas. Bought those Harbor Freight specials and never had the need to buy a Milwaukee yet. Although my Milwaukee recip saw kicks but

i use an old school black and decker 2750g (back when they were legit). but otherwise, i swear by milwaukee for all my power tools. i've had good luck with dewalt and makita, but it just seems to me like the milwaukee is built just a bit better.

i used to use a metabo at a shop i worked at a while back, it was pretty nice- comfy, quiet, and will probably last a long time, but there's simply no way its worth the ridiculous price.

Years ago I had one of those cheap 4 inch grinders that I bought at a Cummins tool sale. I bought it for the same reason we all buy cheap tools... so that we can learn that you get what you pay for and move on to paying more for something good. The only thing is that this grinder lasted for YEARS under heavy use. The sad part is that it met a horrible death when one of my brother's friends accidentally kicked over a 1 gallon can of Chemdip and it spilled all over it. I have had one of those 4 1/2 inch Craftsman grinders that cost like $45 new and have used it for almost 3 years now without any problems. I like the momentary push button style with optional lock which is the only reason I bought it over the Bosch that thought about getting at the time. I also have a very cheaply made 4 inch grinder which has no power to it at all and I keep that on top of my mig welder. It's purpose is to just sit there for when I need to clean off a small spot to weld. The thing will barely cut through steel and gets hot fast but when used lightly to clean off paint or rust it works just fine.

Ive got the same inexpensive Ryobi, running 4 years of major abuse now and no problems. I recently got a 10 amp Dewalt from Lowes and used a $10 off coupon and paid about $55. Now I dont have to switch wheels
