Benton Country Demo Derby 2009

Well, just about that time of the year again. The Benton County Demo Derby is only about a month away and I'm nearly done with my car. I just need to get the number on the roof. Anyways, here's the car this year. I'm mainly looking forward to the racing since it has a nice little motor for a mid-size car and it's front wheel drive.

1986 Buick Park Avenue
3.8L V6, front wheel drive
Auto tranny

I picked the car up for $200 because it has a slipping tranny when going from second to third gear. However, this doesn't really matter as our track is small enough where I will only reach second gear, if that.

I'm planning on demo'ing the car as well, so I'll be sure to post up some pictures afterward. Wish me luck!

Is Benton County the one that Kennewick is in? I honestly don't pay much attention attention to county name other than King, and Kittitas. City names, yes, but not county.

So what with the puzzle peices? Does some one you know have Autsim(sp) just wondering cause the puzzle peice is the new symbole for autsim support groups.

No, it's not that. I just couldn't come up with a design, so I was looking at pictures of other cars and someone had a rear panel that had a couple puzzle pieces painted on it. So I went with it. But hey, Autism is worth supporting too.

Well the demo derby was last night. It was an absolute blast! The Buick ran well all night.

It started with time trials. I ran a 12.84, which was in the top 10. But it wasn't fast enough to get to run with the other fast cars.

We then went to Best in Show. I took second place. The first place car looked like a tank (minus the tracks!). But it had a big cannon on top and everything...it was very cool. He ended up getting pushed on top of one of the concrete barriers...snapped his driveshaft like a twig.

Then we did heat races. I was in the best position at the beginning of the race. First car in line on the inside of the track. I was absolutely hauling ass around the track. I lapped three or four cars. I got the white flag for one lap remaining and I was just beginning the last turn to the finish line. Some a-hole, who was way out of the race, pit maneuvered me, not spinning me all the way around, but knocking me way outside. After recovering, I got out-nosed at the finish line and took second.

Then my friend's older sister raced my car for Powderpuff. She whooped everybody! I think she lapped nearly every other car. It was fun to watch.

Lastly, for the demo... I beat about half the field (somewhere around 50-60 cars). I got nailed right on the passenger side by a huge land yacht, it tipped me up on my side. I could reach out and touch the ground, it was right there. If he had kept going I would have rolled for sure. But he backed out after he hit me, so I fell back right-side-up. I tried restarting it, it would crank and crank but I think I lost spark. So I was done.

All in all, it was a hell of a time, I can't wait til next year.
