belt system questions

looks like i'll be dealing without a/c for the timer being. did u use the vics p/s pump or the ranger? (in respect to which pulley you used). will the a/c lines make it all the way to the pass side? im ok with lengthening alt wires, no biggie.

I used the Vic pump. A/C lines ? they should reach as the Vic A/C compressor is closer to the A/C box.

I used a new pump for a 5.0L too, my 20+ year old 2.9L pump was a whiner also.. :D

my pump is quiet. (for a for pump lol) i just redid all the a/c so id really like to keep it if at all possible, plus fl. is nasty in summertime. how much room will i have for a fan? what have you guys run? i wanna go electric, pusher or puller, or both.

If you have the room, use a Taurus E-fan, That will keep a dog in a chinese restaurant from sweating :icon_thumby:

for the crown vic brackets, they are a serp belt style accessory. do i just swap to my v-belt pulley for my alt? or do i need all the front drive pulleys as well? trying to keep it cheap, my budget is coming to its limit. would like to retain as much of my factory stuff as possible. makes it easier to order parts lol.

You will need all the drive pulleys as well as the brackets...

While on the subject of Crown Vic belt systems, I want to use the A/C compressor but not the smog pump. Has anyone just used a shorter belt around the compressor, adjuster, and crank pulleys?

Yes, you can do this. In the mustang world it's known as short-belting. Back when I was running my stang we would just get a shorter belt, you didn't even have to remove the smog pump, the pump was mounted so low that the belt did not contact the smog pump pulley when short-belting the motor...

Thanks, I was thinking it would work, but sometimes there's some small detail that messes up my plans lol.

Here's the motor that went into my last Ranger, I used the shorter belt on it instead of the overpriced delete pulleys to delete the A/C and smog pump.

With vey little mods, you can remove the smog pump and install a second altenator if you have big power requirements, like I do :D

That's a good idea, I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever need some more power :icon_thumby:

Ok, my rebuilt 302 is up and running. I also got a vic belt setup. I am using the m5odr2 trans. Any rough estimates on rear dshaft length? Its a super cab. 4x4. I also grabbed a dual fan setup from a contour. Low profile. Its comin together!

Post up pics of the dual fan setup from the contour, I'd like to see that :icon_thumby:
