as you already know im just putting the motor back in my 79. i tightened up the 4 torque converter-to-flexplate bolts, and turned the front crank pulley and she turned fine with the bellhousing bolts about 1/16-1/18" loosened, and then i tightened up the bellhousing bolts and tried to turn the crank again and it was stuck. i dont understand this,, what is going on? im very confused over this one
thanks

Haven't you asked about this before? LOL Doesn't sound like you have your torque converter seated in right. Need to twist to back and forth on the input shaft and it will slide on to the splines.

would that really affect how tight the bellhousing bolts are? would like 1/`6" of the bolt tightned make that much of a difference

Of course it could.

ok thanks, i never would of thought that. can i set the torque converter in without pulling the motor? or can i make a 1/16" washer to go on the bolts so the bolts are still tight but not tight enough to seize it up?

Doesn't it go: TC in all the way, bell bolts tight, THEN TC nuts tight?

That's the way I've always done it...

Didn't you have this problem already boggin? Thought you pulled it back apart....

He did have this issue already and we determined that he had the TC in wrong.

yea thats what i thought too, but after i got it to turn it tonight i figured it was good, so i thigtened up the bellhousing and it was stuck again. i cant believe i gotta take this all apart again. FML.
btw, to drop the trans, the trans crossmember gotta come out doesnt it

thats gonna be a a pita. besides where it mounts to the frame, it also mounts with the radius arm brackets. i wonder can i drop the tcase seperate, then have enough room to slide the trans back towards the rear end far enough to get it down after the crossmember

Would a missing engine block cause this? With out a better set by step of how things were assembled, too many people guessing.

:icon_confused:

Huh? If the engine block is missing what did he bolt the trans to?

if i gotta drop the trans i gotta pull the radius arm mounts with the crossmember and shit so screw that. im gonna pull the motor and trans again as 1 unit. if i havent said it before ill do so again. FML FML FML FML FML FML FML FML FML FML FML FML
