My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
I am being lazy today. I worked 20 straight hours yesterday. I got up and started driving at 4 am and got home a little after midnight. I drove for 12 hours and spent the other 8 in the shop trying to figure out why one of my EGR trucks won't run, I can tell you the problem, the EGR valve keeps sticking open but we can not figure out why, this truck has gone through 6 EGR valves in as many months. going to replace this damn Volvo, I hate this truck.

I should be instaling my new and freshly bled clutch master/slave on my cruiser but it is cold and wet outside, so I am going to be lazy today, I'll go in at 4pm to hand out paychecks.

Wow, 6 in 6 months is bad. I have never heard of a Volvo having that problem. But there are always exceptions to the rule. What company do you work for? I am getting ready to start with NTB.

I work for me. the Damn truck is a 2005 Vovlo with a 465 Volvo D-12. I have had nothing but problems with this POS since I bought it. I will never have another Volvo engine in the fleet. Volvos are nice from the Driver's point of view. from the owners point of view ........ you can't keep them aligned because of the stupid air ride front suspension. they are a wiring nightmare, the vovlo engine is crap, the inside hood latch breaks and it has no safety back up so you latch brakes and you hit the brakes going down the road and the hood pops open. They are heavier than hell, mine is a 670 and it wieghs 11,200 on the steer empty. but they are comfortible, well insulated, and easy to drive.

NTB is a good company, I won't work for them, but I have an attitude problem, which is why I started my own company.

is the actual valve itself sticking or is there a control issue that is holding the valve open when it shouldnt be?

if the valve itself is sticking, i wonder if maybe the truck isnt burning as clean as it should be, causing the EGR valves to get fouled out really soon...:dunno:

i dunno, just shots in the dark kinda.

the valve sticks wide open, we have replaced the control thingy, run the overhead, it had 2 injectors go down 6 months ago and that is when the problem started. I do the happy dance if it breaks 5 mpg, it gets around 4.75 and it should be getting 6.2 atleast.

it smokes like crazy (like its on fire) but that has to do with the valve being stuck open. It will be paid off next month and it is going down the road, picking up 18 repossessed Freightliner Arcadia that some company bought and then filed Chapter 11, the only miles they got is from delivery. I will be replacing 8 sleeper trucks and expanding by 10 trucks. still plan on going employee owned in febuary.

Good luck with those fruitboxes. We've got in several with the new detriot/mercedes engines (15 litre) -you'll be lucky to get 4.75 with those. Open the hood and they make my '04 ISX look like a model T. They have this faggot emissions system that incinerates soot particulates by burning it hot with fuel. Our first truck to run 15,000 miles back in '07 used NINETY-TWO GALLONS of fuel to incinerate soot, didn't move the truck one frikken inch. Add that to the fuel bill, average it out with the rest of the fuel the truck uses and you'll be lucky to be getting 4 MPG. There is so much crap under that hood, I'll bet the engine light will be on half the time and no one will be able to fix the bastard.

Not trying to discourage you or anything, just a warning I suppose. And I agree- those volvo engines suck big time. The last two companies I've worked for ditched all the volvo powered trucks they bought early, as in broke lease and dumped them. How they remain in business is a surprise to me. I guess swift and US express keeps 'em up.

I thought you were gonna be downsizing due to that wreck you were talking about? New plans? :icon_confused:

I guess the trucking industry doesn't get much relief from anything. Sorry for your problems. Its your given right to be lazy for a day. So sit back, have a drink, and just say "f8ck it", do what you want to do.

the new plan is to go employee owned in Feburary. they want new trucks as part of the deal and I wont be responsible, they are bought on corporate credit.
