I recently found a 302 from an f250. it came in front of an m5r2 (or m5od-r2) 5 speed and a borg warner 1356. This particular motor had a high rise intake and EFI. Im going with a holly truck avenger to simplify my install and i need an intake for a carb. I was also thinking of a set of different heads and a camshaft while im in the process of tearing it apart. my dilema is i cant really find much in the way of info other than its a 1988 302. Im guessing its a Cleavland, ive never heard of a 302 Windsor. can anyone shed some light on this motor for me? im a backyard mechanic and i know quite a bit about motors and such but i cant find any numbers on this motor anywhere. I just need to know what im dealing with so i can research and find parts that are interchangeable.

im goin to upload some pics of the motor and trans in a few ill post a link

I don't know what to say if you've never heard of a 302 Windsor, actually would be the 5.0L in that year. From five feet away, if you see six bolts holding down the valve cover, its a Windsor, eight would make it the Cleveland. Good luck.

The 302/5.0 series is in the Windsor family. There are no Cleveland 302/5.0 motors.

Actually there were. But none were put into pickups and not on this continent:D (Boss 302 and the Aussie 302C)

You've got a 302 (Windsor engine family) it's got a roller block, but has a flat tappet cam, the lifter retainer spyder bosses may or may not be drilled and tapped in the lifter valley. Heads should be E7TE's, same as the HO motors. Any of these intakes will work great for you: Ford A321, Edelbrock RPM or the older F4B, or a Weiand Stealth. Top it with a 570 Street Avenger or a similar sized Truck Avenger for off road use.

Oh and judging from the exhaust manifold gaskets I see in the pics, the engine's not the original motor or it's been rebuilt sometime in the past. Ford never installed exhaust manifolds with gaskets.

Thanks guys that helps alot. Unfortunately i dont have the money for this project at this moment. I just cooked the 4r44e thats in my truck now. will this m5r2 bolt to my 3.0? or can i get an adapter so i can use this trans now to get me by with the 3.0 and when i can afford it swap in the 302. I want to rebuild this motor from the ground up thats why i want to wait untill i have the money and get it done all at once. thanks.

No, the V8 transmission will not bolt up. And no adapters for that either.
