Damn Bob, you could sell those pictures to science books they are so good

What lens is that? I'm looking into getting a nice macro lens (I have the one that came with my camera that does alot of things, but doesn't really excel at any "one" thing)

Absolutely stunning, Bob. I'm curious to know the specifics of these shots. This was obviously done with a quality macro, but is it a 1:1 or stronger? Did you use extension tubes? Flash? DOF with macro shooting can be tricky but you nailed these! A peek at the EXIF data would be great...

Thanks Jay! No flash, or extention tubes were used, just the 105mm VR.

thats pretty cool, but can you kill it know, i hate bees haha

Good to see this thread bumped for anyone who may have missed Bob's excellent work the first time around.

i want your camera bob, dont make me steal it

Actually it's not really the camera. A great camera never hurts, but in this case it's the glass, and much more importantly, the person doing the shooting. He could have captured these with a "budget" DSLR.

bees are dirty little buggers!

question: how do you take a picture of your camera?

j/k

those are some sick pics man. they remind me of the macro pics i took when i was in SD for field camp a couple years ago. i was taking a smoke break in the parking lot and found a crazy spider. . .guess i need to install my old HD on my new cpu. but i did take my avatar pic with the same camera Cannon Powershot S3. when i get my old HD loaded up i'll post some cool geology pics.
