Looked in the parts interchange list and it doesn't go back far enough. Looking at a 96 ranger step side bed on an 88 and wanting to know if they will swap easily
I put a 92 Ranger box on a 96 Ranger frame last year and it fit perfectly...the only thing you may have to alter is the fuel filler neck to get it to fit properly. The 96 was slightly wider than the 92 so when I used the 96 filler neck it wouldn't quite sit right.
The other issue is up to 1992 Ford used a two bulb tail light system but sometime after that they switched to a three bulb system. I was going to work around my lens/bulb issue in the easiest way possible...mount the backup lights or the signal lights in separate lenses on the bumper or below it.
The other method I considered was to modify the lenses to take a third bulb.
You have the reverse problem...two bulbs for the 1988 to a three bulb lens in the 96...
Someone on here posted a link to a diagram to work from two to three using a diode and some wire alterations. I have seen "retrofit" pigtails offered by parts supply stores but you will need to either investigate that or post a specific note about it on here to see if anyone else has done it.
I just searched LMC and didn't see anything...Google search didn't turn up anything positive but that doesn't mean there isn't a solution...
