yes sir i do live in the good old CO, around the westminster/broomfield area. Me and a buddy were talking about trying to go up to slaughterhouse or something this weekend. your more then welcome to join in. my buddy will be running his 88' ranger ex. cab with a 4'' lift and some 31's. he's a farm boy and will take his truck to the limit and then some. i'll talk to him tonight and see what his plan is and let ya know.

that truck is gear, how hard was it to do the regear and did it take much patience?

thanx. it was cake regearing the axles. when i did the 8.8, i got it on the second try, perfect pattern and backlash. the front took about 5 or 6 tries to get in correctly. i'm sure glad i payed attention when i was taking auto classes and did it on the schools mock units 8 or 9 times- really made things go well when it came time to do it on a "live" axle.

I will be in Moab thurday through saturday. You should go on the RMFTC trail run next saturday though.:icon_thumby: If not then, another trail run soon. Im in south Denver and always down for wrenching/wheeling.

deadly thanks dude

well the beast is out of service as of yesterday!!! when wheeling, had no problems or breaks at all. comming home i was having carb. issues and pulled over for a lil to check things out. i got her running alright and started backing up when... WHAM. i got out and looked around and could not see anything, so i drove home. when getting off the highway, the trans made another WHAM and all the sudden i had no gears at all. pulled over and then it started to move again. barely made it home when the trans jumped and there was no gears again. i pulled the pan today(fm145) and checked out everything. there was a lil bit of metal flakes inside but nothing too bad. something inside the trans let loose and now it is nothing more then a boat anchor. it goes into all gears but there is just a grinding sound and it just sits stationary. so this week i'm yanking it out and tearing it down to see what went a rie. i'll just to replacing it with a unit from the yard for 90$ and slapping that one in.

i'll try to get a sound file of the horrible sound that is present.

sigh......... if its not one thing it's another. i'll bandage this pos drivetrain to get thou the summer then come winter.......302 swap!!!

sounds like a typical FM146. mine let 4th gear go at 280K i drove it another 100K without 4th lol at that point i didnt care

ya at least you could continue to drive, mine was jumping, banging, clashing and then that final bang ended it all. thats awsome tho that you drive it that long like that, wish i could have gotten away with that.

Just swap a 4.0 and M50D in place of that old 2.8 and fm145 junk. I heard the 4.0 gets much better MPG than the 2.8 and 2.9. Plus the 4.0 has alot of aftermarket support. :)

ya know i did think about doing that but i'm totally not sure yet. i really would like a 5.0 and i saw in jegs the other night that i could get a roatating assembly to make a 302 a 347 for about 1300$ i still dont know what i'll do yet, just toying with my options.

Nice truck! Can't beat the price eh? If you going to run the tube doors, you should paint the undercoating in the jams to match the paint line you made when doing it. Just my thoughts.

I'm looking forward to the 302 swap on this. I've just put a 306 in my 92. But...it's a bagged 2wd. But a ranger is a ranger and I like em all. Good work man!

shitty that ya blew a trans, hope it works out i love your truck

update.... further inspection reveals that the problem is a grenaded t-case. the oil i just drained out of it was completely silver. i got a old 1350 in my storage and i'm gona slap that in and hope it fixed my problem.

so today i got the old case off and disassembled. inside it was nothing but "glitter" --total explosion!!!! lol i dont know what i'm doing but this will be the 3rd case i'll be puttn in.
