Battery Recharge Help

I just wanna start it up and let it run for about 10 minutes to get the battery good for a week or two of no use =P I plan on starting it for about 10 minutes once or twice a month if it doesn't move, just to be sure that its runnin when needed.

You can always install a battery tender on it. This way you just plug it in and let it be. And when you are ready to start the truck, just unplug it.

Or you could do what I did and build a solar panel array to charge batteries.

My battery I am puttin in my truck is a NAPA 65 Sure Start, it was made back in August of 2006 and is well expired, but according to Autozone, its still good, but needs 73 minutes of charge at 40 AMPs.

Now, for the issue: My charger has 2 AMP, 10 AMP, and 50 AMP start.

the guy at autozone said not to use 50 amp because it will burn out the battery, so I need some help.

if its completely dead you need to pop off the vent caps if it has them and make sure the water is full and all 6 cells are even. if not then top off with distilled water.

then charge at 2amps over night. if you charge too hard it will boil the water out and etch the battery plates.. further condemning it

Seeing as how he has a NON SERVICEABLE battery with the sealed caps, that's a less than brilliant idea. Doable for a trained professional with the right safety equipment, but not advisable for a high school student with screwdrivers and mediocre (at best) safety glasses.

look closer...

If it is going to be sitting alot get a good trickle charger and just leave it plugged in and it sounds like your in a hurry but not in a hurry put it on two amps with it out of the truck and just let it charge fully like that. If it is a automatic charger leave it going it will keep it charged it is not good for the charging system to run on less than 75% charge so get a full charge on it then check your charging system for proper output. If it sits a long time the computer and radio are constantly discharging it with their memory and it can take up to an hour of running to fully charge the battery from one start especially after sitting a bit and a trickle charge will maintain the battery when you are not using it.

i vote that he should buy a new battery. all it seems like he is trying to do is postpone the inevitable. and at some degree of risk to either the battery or himself.
i paid more for a marine starting battery that has plenty for starting, but also a little more reserve capacity. just my $.02.

could I install a battery from a different vehicle, turn her over, unplug the battery, and put in the old one with it running?

I have no idea if its dangerous or not to be honest, but worth asking =P.
I just dont wanna waste tje time doing that, until I have this frame or this job (which ever one comes first), I wont be able to do squat with my truck, and I really need help with the brakelines, and since dad is never home, its kinda hard to get them done, but I am clear for the weekend July 9 - 11 for anybody willing to help, and I mostly just need help with the $50 deposit on the tools from Autozone (you return them and get your money back when done).

don't do that. you can seriously **** some shit up. heres an idea... put your dead battery in and JUMP the truck with the good battery and let it run for a while with the jumper cables still attached

tried that already =P pulled the F150 down and hooked it up, and tried to jump it, no luck, (p.s. getting an F150 between 2 barns is not easy when you have about a 1 or 2 ' gap between your truck and the barn.

ahem... take the battery out of the f150 and set it on the ground and attach good jumper cables to it.

if it won't crank the engine then you are using to small or too long of jumper cables.. or the f150 battery is bad, or the ranger starter is drawing too much
