Battery from a cannon

So I just got enlightened from a PBS documentary about Ben Franklin, who assembled several rows of jars with some chemical in it that produced a small electrical charge, and after connecting them together in some way then named it a "battery", after an array of cannons, and the rest, as they say, is hisstory

It was ol' Ben that used the term "battery" in 1700's, when he was experimenting with linking together capacitors to store and release electricity

Batter and Batterie are older French words meaning "to strike", i.e. Assault and Battery
(Assault is the threat to strike, Battery is the actual contact)

A Row of cannons was placed "to strike", or "batter", the Enemy so was called a Battery of Cannons or Artillery
