Does anyone know where to buy a new negative ground cable for an 88 2.9 Ranger? We have several parts stores here but most cables are generic things, I'm not sure if the big black circular thing that goes to the bulkhead is needed or not.

Autozone carries an exact replacement for your truck.

i work there and we don't stock a factory replacement. i take out the old one and we carry one that has the battery lug and a bolt lug to from batt. to the frame then i get one that is long enough to go from the frame to the block. i would say yes that the second piece is needed cuz i had to run another ground from the frame directly to the starter cuz it wasn't getting enough power

yep. you'll get it tuesday if you order over the weekend. unless you live near a hub store but i still don't think they are stocked even there.

Well, sorry bud, but I had 2 stores to choose from to pick it up from. It's different everywhere. At least he's got a part number for the exact part instead of butchering his electric system.

Thanks All for your help, I ordered one from Autozone. Hopefully this will help the starting problem.
